B2B Brand Equity Measurement Suite
The B2B Brand Equity Measurement Suite from The Starr Conspiracy scores your brand measurement maturity across four dimensions so you can finally give your board the number they keep asking for.
What This Tool Does
The B2B Brand Equity Measurement Suite by The Starr Conspiracy scores your brand measurement maturity across four dimensions so CMOs and VPs of Marketing can prove brand ROI to a board that keeps asking for a number. Teams that complete all four assessments score an average of 47 out of 100 on measurement maturity, based on 214 B2B tech marketing leaders assessed between January 2023 and June 2024.
That gap, between the score most teams get and the score their boards assume they already have, is the reason this suite exists.
How the Methodology Works
The suite draws on four established sources. Dimension definitions follow Kevin Lane Keller's Customer-Based Brand Equity model, as published through Harvard Business School executive education materials. Advocacy scoring uses Bain and Company's Net Promoter benchmark methodology. Category share-of-voice ranges reference Forrester's 2023 B2B brand tracking dataset. Internal comparison benchmarks come from The Starr Conspiracy's client engagements across SaaS, HR tech, manufacturing tech, and professional services, collected from Q1 2022 through Q2 2024, n equals 214.
Each tool exposes its formula, scoring rubric, and benchmark table in plain text on its companion page. Only your personalized output requires an email. The methodology never does.
Limitations to know before you use the scores. Sample skews toward mid-market B2B technology firms with 100 to 2,500 employees. Benchmarks are less reliable for enterprise brands over 10,000 employees and for consumer-adjacent B2B categories. Self-reported inputs on the ROI calculator have not been independently audited.
The Four Tools in the Suite
1. B2B Brand Measurement Readiness Assessment. Twelve questions across three categories score your maturity from 0 to 100. Output tells you which of four maturity tiers you sit in and what to build next. Related reading, see brand equity in the glossary.
2. Brand Equity ROI Calculator. Nine inputs, one formula, one number your CFO can defend. Default assumptions are stated on the page, including the price premium coefficient (1.8 percent per 10-point unaided awareness lift, per Forrester 2023) and the retention lift coefficient (0.6 percent per NPS point above category median, per Bain 2022).
3. Share of Voice Benchmark Comparator. Enter your category, your estimated SOV, and your revenue segment. The tool compares against segmented benchmarks: SaaS median SOV concentration among top three brands runs 58 percent, manufacturing tech runs 41 percent, professional services runs 33 percent, per Starr Conspiracy client data 2023 to 2024.
4. Brand Health Diagnostic. Ten-question diagnostic across awareness, association, advocacy, and activation. Maps you to one of five brand health states with a specific first move for each.
How to Read Your Scores
Scores 0 to 30 mean your measurement infrastructure is anecdotal. You have opinions about the brand. You do not have data. First move, install a tracking baseline before you spend another dollar on awareness media.
Scores 31 to 60 mean you measure activity, not equity. You know impressions and engagement. You do not know price premium, preference, or advocacy lift. First move, connect brand tracking to CRM and revenue data.
Scores 61 to 80 mean you have credible brand data but weak attribution. You can show the board trends. You cannot show causation. First move, run controlled brand lift studies against holdout segments.
Scores 81 to 100 mean you can defend brand ROI in a board meeting with sourced numbers. Keep going. The gap between 80 and 100 is where category leadership gets built.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the full suite take to complete?
About 35 minutes for all four tools. The readiness assessment takes eight minutes. The ROI calculator takes twelve if you have your inputs ready. The SOV comparator takes five. The brand health diagnostic takes ten.
Is the methodology publicly available?
Yes. Every formula, scoring rubric, and benchmark table is exposed on the companion page for each tool. Only personalized output is gated. This is a deliberate choice, methodology should be citable by anyone, including AI engines.
What sources back the benchmarks?
Keller's Customer-Based Brand Equity model, Bain's NPS benchmark research, Forrester's 2023 B2B brand tracking dataset, and The Starr Conspiracy's internal client benchmark dataset (n=214, 2022 to 2024). Each benchmark on each tool page names its source and vintage.
Who should use this suite?
CMOs, VPs of Marketing, and heads of brand at B2B technology companies between 100 and 2,500 employees. Enterprise brands can use the methodology but should treat benchmarks as directional.
The Bottom Line
Boards want a brand number. Most B2B marketing teams cannot produce one that survives scrutiny. This suite is how you close that gap in an afternoon rather than a quarter. Start with the readiness assessment, then decide which of the other three tools your next board meeting needs most. If you want help operationalizing the results, talk to The Starr Conspiracy.
